The Stump tradition continues at the Big Kansas Road Trip.
For 28 years, Marci Penner would bring a tree stump to each Kansas Sampler Festival location to stand on and then ask the audience questions about things to see and do in Kansas. The same rules apply this year. Those with the first correct answer will get a ticket, and at the end of the 15-minute game, someone will win a prize from a Stump Sponsor. It’s a fast and fun fifteen minutes! For the BKRT, the stump will make appearances in different areas of the three counties all four days of the event.
Merchandise (t-shirts, backpacks and car flags) will be sold at four of the Stumps as listed below.
The annual Kansas Explorers Club meeting is also held during the BKRT. See below for more information.
THE STUMP SCHEDULE
Meet Marci Penner and WenDee Rowe of the Kansas Sampler Foundation and co-authors of the Kansas Guidebook 2 for Explorers. At “The Stump”, Marci will ask Kansas questions and the audience will answer. In the end, someone walks away with a prize.
Merchandise will not be available at the Stump locations with an asterisk. Kansas Guidebooks and Explorer swag will be available at the other locations! Remember, bring a lawn chair!

& THE STUMP
May 7, Sunday - All welcome
10am - Home on the Range Cabin, 7032 90 Rd, north of Athol
The Stump will start at 10am, followed by the meeting. The Kansas Explorers Club is a fluid group of people who love traveling the backroads and getting to know the nooks and crannies of the state.
One of our few annual get togethers is during the BKRT at the Kansas Explorers Club meeting. But, anyone is invited to attend. We'll share BKRT highlights, sing our state song, announce the counties for the 2024 BKRT, and more. It's a fun way to wrap up another Big Kansas Road Trip.
